We are excited to announce that Pragma Engine 2026.3 is here! After a busy few months launching some great games, we shipped 2026.3 earlier this week, and almost everything in it answers one question: what does your backend need on the busiest night of your game's life? Resiliency of your Pragma platform. Performance targets that allow for millions of concurrent players. Ability to isolate telemetry events. A fast lane through the login queue for your team, your partners, and the streamers showing off your game. Here's what's new, and why it matters for a studio running a live game.

Highlights

Dedicated telemetry backend

You can now run telemetry on its own set of instances. A surge of telemetry events, the kind that tends to arrive at exactly the moment your player count spikes, can no longer impact performance of your game and social services. It also makes telemetry costs easier to separate out, which helps studios working with a centralized publisher. Game and social services reach the dedicated backend over the internal load balancer, which keeps network costs down. Dedicated telemetry backend

Login queue bypass

Developers, community managers, partners, and streamers can skip the login queue and log in immediately, even when the game is at its player cap. Approved accounts are managed in backend config, so adding someone requires no client build or code change. If you would love to know why the queue exists in the first place, see Login queues: your first line of defense on launch day. Login queue bypass

Telemetry sampling for game clients and game servers

Turn telemetry volume up, down, or off for game clients and dedicated game servers from backend config. Changes reach connected clients and servers in real time, with no redeploy. Client and game server event sampling

Steam Family Sharing ban enforcement

Banned players can no longer keep playing by lending their Steam license to a fresh account through Steam Family Sharing. Logins on a borrowed license are refused when the license owner is banned, and banning a player also bans the owner of the license they most recently played on. Both protections are on by default. Broadcast notifications to game servers and operators

Broadcast a notification to every connected game server or operator session, not just players. For example, warn every running game server about upcoming maintenance from a single service call. Broadcast notifications

Unreal 5.8 support

Build your game on Unreal 5.8 with the Pragma SDK. The SDK is compatibility tested with Unreal Engine 4.27 and 5.0 through 5.8. SDK overview

Test orders without a provider

The new UnsafeOrderService stands in for a third-party store, so your team can grant test orders and exercise order sync and fulfillment without real purchases. Test orders without a provider

Also in this release

Performance. Faster RPC dispatch and fewer allocations in PlayerData, better outbound HTTP performance through connection reuse, improved database connection pool performance, and optional HTTP compression for gateways, game to social calls, and telemetry.

Observability. Dashboards can be filtered by backend type and node, new metrics cover JVM health, internal message routing, and PlayerData outcomes, and debug logging includes player IDs so a single player's calls can be followed through the system.

Platforms. PlayStation identity and order plugins support Sony's DEV and CERT sandboxes, and Xbox API calls are faster and return less data.

Tooling. A single Pragma CLI command now regenerates SDK types and copies the SDK into your Unreal project, and the load simulator runs on a new reusable Kotlin client library that can load test a dedicated telemetry backend.

Upgrading to 2026.3

Most of this release drops in, but a few changes need a decision or a small code change before you ship 2026.3 to players:

  • Unreal login flow. The SDK now asks for the token after the player clears the login queue, so your their token no longer expires from a long wait in the queue.
  • Steam Family Sharing enforcement is on by default. Decide whether that matches your ban policy, or opt out.
  • Shorter player token lifetime. Tokens now expire after 3 hours by default (was 24), and refresh 15 minutes before expiry.
  • New config for test orders. The new test order service has its own database, so every deployed shard needs its config added.
  • Project migration. Run ./pragma update 2026-3 to migrate your game and social server projects, and use the Pragma CLI to update the Unreal SDK.

The complete list, with code changes, is in Integrations and deprecations for 2026.3. For the upgrade steps, see Updating Pragma Engine, and for every change in this release, the full 2026.3 release notes.
